Breakfast, After school Clubs and Childcare Provision

Breakfast Club

We offer free breakfast club from 8am every morning.  This is free of charge and run by our qualified staff. Parents do not need to register or go on a waiting list and just need to bring their children to the school office between 8:00 and 8:15 where they will be signed in. Children are able to choose what to eat from a selection including fruit juice, milk cereal, crumpets, pancakes, toast and fresh/dried fruit. A range of activities are available including: table top activities, arts and crafts, games, lego, snooker, music and dance. Children are taken to class after breakfast club at 8.55 am every morning.

After School Clubs 

 After school clubs take place after school until 4:15pm. There are different ones to choose from each term, with many continuing throughout the whole school year. Clubs can include dance, cookery, football, dodgeball, iPad, gardening and more! They are open to children in KS1 and KS2 but you must consult the letter that you receive at the start of each term to see which clubs are available for your child at that time. Some clubs are very popular so not all children who ask will be given a place. When this happens, those children are put on a waiting list and given priority to join that club for the next term/half term (club dependent). Clubs are free, run by staff and coaches and are a great way for the children to enhance their learning though extra curricular activities.

Extra Curricular Activities and School Visits 

There is a range of extra curricular activities on offer at different times of the year. These have included football, cooking, skipping, dance, musical instruments, judo, arts and craft and ICT. Extra curricular provision is under constant review and we try to organise events that capture the interest of the children. Children and parents are notified in advance about times and dates of activities.

School visits that support and extend the curriculum are a feature of our educational provision.  In accordance with Gateshead LA policy and the Education Act (1988), we request voluntary contributions towards the costs of educational visits. The contribution helps towards entry, transport and insurance costs.

In addition to day visits that take place in every year group throughout the year, we also organise residential visits for our Year 6 children. Through these visits, children’s personal and social skills are developed and visits have an outward bound or cultural dimension to them. A savings club is run to help spread the costs of such visits.

Risk assessments are carried out for all visits and approved by relevant authorities in line with Gateshead Council policy.

Year 4 Science Trip

The New Mulberry Bush Nursery Provision

We have an excellent relationship with The New Mulberry Bush Nursery who are able to offer our families additional childcare. New Mulberry Bush Nursery Childcare are based on Wrekenton High Street and already work with several local schools. Their staff collect children who require childcare from our school at 3.25pm and can also offer to collection from after-school clubs that finish at 4.15pm (for a small additional fee) and taken into the Mulberry Bush until 6pm for an additional fee. Parents can then collect children from the New Mulberry Bush Childcare before 6pm.
